Dunedin

Today (Saturday), we docked in Dunedin.  Dunedin was a Scottish settlement on the south island of New Zealand.  It is a pretty, friendly town of about 125,000 people.  It has a lot of beautiful old buildings, many built in the 1800s. Our day didn’t start to well, as I left my knapsack containing my camera and laptop on the shuttle bus.  After a lot of panic and rushing back to the ship, we recovered it.

When we got back downtown, we took the walking tour of the city.

The town boasted two beautiful cathedrals, one Anglican and one Presbyterian.

There were lots of old, well preserved buildings.

The train station was a magnificant old building.

Being of Scottish heritage, they played homage to Robbie Burns.

Yes they still have telephone booths that look very British.

One of the neat things we discovered was that they were having a bagpipe & drum band contest that day, with several Scottish bagpipe marching bands performing.  It was quite a festival.  The weather was warm and sunny and we had another great day.

Realxing at an outdoor cafe, enjoying the performances.

The bands all did a great job. They clearly loved this Scottish tradition.

Relaxing on deck as we sailed away
