Hunter Valley Wine Tour

Today (Monday), we took our second tour out into the countryside to the Hunter Valley, where the Australian wine industry got it's start in 1825. It was a great trip in a small bus with only 12 participants.  The two leaders did an excellent job navigating us around the wine region.  Part of our tour included a gourmet luncheon, which was outstanding.  We tasted some incredible wines, all from small boutique wineries. We ended up purchasing 4 bottles to take with us (home or onto our cruise).  It was a fun day in beautiful warm sunshine.

 Beautiful grapes ready for picking

Our first of 4 wineries that we sampled from

The vintner was very knowledgable and hospitable.
He was very familiar with our Niagara Wine district & Ice Wine.

Enjoying a taste of Shiraz, which the Hunter Valley is most know for.

This vineyard was owned by a retired British businessman.

Hunter Valley has over 15,000 acres of grapes under cultivation

If you look carefully under the tree (middle centre) you can see a wild Kangaroo.
